I got it because my cat has allergies and asthma where his lungs become really inflamed. It works well and the air definitely does feel cleaner. There are 4 different modes - Quiet, General, Allergen + a "Turbo" mode. Turbo mode is very loud but if you are someone who likes to sleep with white noise then you'll appreciate this. I wouldn't consider the other modes very loud unless you need complete silence; they sound like a small fan; they're fine to have on during voice calls etc. without interfering. If you're wondering about the differences between the millions of Honeywell air purifiers like I was, just make sure the product has "true HEPA" in it. Other than that, only real differences are visual - control panel, colour & size. The newer models seem to have more convenient, digital settings (timer, turn off light) while the older ones mainly have manual dials and basic settings. My older one in another room only has a dial that you turn to change the fan speed and you can't turn the light off on it, but it still works just as well. This newer model has a digital interface - you're able to turn the light off and use buttons to change all settings. It also has a light indicating when you need to change your filter unlike other models I've had. The only pro I would say about the older models is that they're cheaper and there's no digital interface where anything could malfunction. I prefer the newer models for their looks, extra settings and convenience, but the older models are still great if you want the manual dial or just want to save some money. If you're confused about the filters - you need two kinds. You don't really need to worry about this upon purchasing the air purifier since it comes with one of each, but eventually you'll need to change them. It's really easy.A HEPA filter (the honeycomb looking one) and a carbon pre-filter (the black fuzzy one). You can usually find which ones you need in the "Frequently bought together" section under the product. For the HEPA ones, you need to make sure it's the right size. For the carbon pre-filters, any of them will do (if they're too big, you can cut them with scissors into the right size - just make sure the ones you buy are large enough for your air purifier). I don't personally do it, but I've heard you can clean and re-use the carbon-prefilters (NOT the HEPA ones).
